The scientific name of Daminozide is N-dimethylaminobutyramide(CAS 1596-84-5). It is a white crystal with a melting point of 154-156 ℃. Soluble in acetone and methanol, insoluble in lower hydrocarbons. Prepared by reacting succinic anhydride with dimethylhydrazine.
Daminozide is a plant growth inhibitor that acts to prevent cell division, inhibit cell elongation, dwarf seedlings, and improve the drought resistance of peanuts. It can also promote early flowering of many fruit trees, increase fruit setting rate, and prevent fruit drop before harvest.
It can inhibit the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid. Daminozide can delay plant growth, inhibit the vigorous growth of aboveground stems and leaves, increase leaf chlorophyll content, improve the rate of root tuber expansion, and promote root tuber expansion.
